Tim Hannah recently retired as an Assistant Director at South Sound 911 in Tacoma, Washington, concluding a distinguished public safety career that spanned more than 30 years. He began his career as a Cadet Deputy Sheriff with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (Salem, OR) before joining the Washington State Patrol in 1994 as a Communications Officer. During his career with the Washington State Patrol, he served in multiple roles including the CAD System Administrator. He also worked for the King County Sheriff’s Office (Seattle, WA) as an Evidence Specialist where he assisted in the transition to a computerized evidence tracking system.
In 2009, he became the Communications Center Manager of a multi-agency 911 center for the City of Puyallup (WA). During this time, he oversaw the dispatch operations, worked on consolidation efforts, and managed the operations and upgrade of a trunked public safety radio sub-system.
In 2015, he was appointed as an Assistant Director at South Sound 911, a newly consolidated 911 agency in Pierce County, WA. There he oversaw the Technical Services division, which included multiple technology teams such as CAD, RMS, GIS, Network Operations, Software Development, and Communications Systems. During his tenure, he oversaw several capital and technology projects, including the technology for a new 74,000 square foot public safety communications center which opened in 2021.
Tim holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a focus on IT Management from Western Governors University. He has contributed his expertise in several advisory roles with APCO/NENA, local educational institutions, and public safety software vendors. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tim is the President and Founder of a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children and families affected by congenital heart defects.
